The Story behind Messy Meow
Maria has always loved and cared for her pet cats. Caring for kitties from a young age, she realized that they were not the tidiest eaters. Over the years, she observed that while eating from their cat bowl, her cats would scatter food about the floor making a constant mess. Every day she would clean the floor and think to herself that there must be an easier way to feed her darling kitties. Then one day - Boom! - the inspiration for Messy Meow was born. She came up with the idea that having a back stop as part of the design would reduce the mess cats create.
After weeks of sketching out designs, she created a bowl that she believed would keep the food inside with a design that incorporated the silhouette of a cat making it both functional and fun. She wanted to take a chance and turn her idea into a product for sale. With a design that was practical, she could offer a solution that would reduce the mess and save money on spilled food and cleaning supplies.
She started talking with friends and they suggested patenting her idea. Maria wanted to make sure that she had an invention that was not already in use and applied for a patent in 2011. Two years later she received the patent! Maria also trademarked Messy Meow.
Maria’s vision was to create something that could be produced domestically to ensure quality control and that it would be safe for pets. After some research, along with trial and error, she decided on a design that utilized BPA free plastic was skid-resistant and dishwasher safe. She commissioned her first manufactured order soon after receiving her patent.
Messy Meow wants to grow and is reliant on word of mouth, testimonials and feedback on social media. Maria successfully placed her bowls with several stores in her hometown of Sacramento.
In support of Maria’s passion for pets, Messy Meow is committed to donating a portion of any profits to pet-friendly charities.
